PARTY PARTY PARTY
Aug. 29th, 2000 11:23 pmCHAT DEMANDS IMPROMPTU IC PARTY FOR THE WIN AND THE LULZ
LET'S GO! JOIN IN!
At the end of the day, your character is led back to their room in the usual manner. The nurse's hand reaches for the doorknob and the door swings open, then--
Poof!
Your character appears in a large ballroom with an exquisitely tiled floor and a large stone fountain in the center. The centerpiece of the fountain, shaped like a large fish, continually emits a spray of glitter from its open mouth. Several tables covered with crisp white tablecloths are positioned near the walls, and a jar of sharpie brand glitter-paint markers serves as a colorful centerpiece for each.
Against the far wall is a long, rectangular table, with two bowls of red punch. A sign written in fancy calligraphy rests against each: Yes, and No. In addition to the punch, there are bottles of every liquor imaginable, as well as several fine wines and packs of cigarettes (though partygoers will have to fight for a single lighter).
The bathroom to one side bears a creepy resemblance to the bathroom in a normal house, complete with a medicine cabinet worthy of a lonely 50's housewife.
On the other side are a series of doors leading to rooms.
CURRENT SUB-ROOMS:
Bathroom
Office
Room of Mystical Legal Aging
Vegas Hotel
Broom Closet
Walk-in Freezer
If your character goes into a room, please put that room in the subject line. Rooms are lockable. If you want a room that isn't listed, tell me and I'll give it to you. XD
Since this is not an actual
damned event and is not srs bzns, feel free to join in with a character that from another rp if you're a potential player. If this is the case, instead of entering through a door in the institute, your player would enter through a random door in the RP from whence they came. XD EDIT: Party is now also for trying out potential characters.
The YES punch smells and tastes alcoholic, and has the same effect as a normal spiked drink. The NO punch smells and tastes like normal non-alcoholic party punch. IF YOUR CHARACTER DRINKS THE NO PUNCH, IM ME AT QUANTIFYTHIS AND I WILL TELL YOU ITS EFFECT.
THE FIRST RULE OF THE PARTY IS DON'T BE LAME. THE SECOND RULE OF THE PARTY IS SRSLY, DON'T BE LAME.

Date: 2008-08-30 06:32 am (UTC)He took another gulp. The medicinal taste in the chocolate liquid was relatively weak, so it wouldn't have much of an effect. Certainly nothing he couldn't handle. Mello estimated the alcohol content somewhere between fifteen and twenty percent.
"I plan to," he said. Like hell he was going to take health advice from someone who hadn't walked more than a mile in the last four years. "But I'm glad you have my best interests at heart."
He pushed away from the wall and bent to scoop up a red marker before turning to face Near's drawing. "Not bad," he said. It looked exactly like a drawing by a five year old with occipital lobe damage. "Too symmetric, though. Here." He yanked the lid from the marker with his teeth and added a few slashes to the upper right edge just beyond Near's reach. It wouldn't be hard for the young man to compensate for the change, but at least it would force him to get off his ass.

Date: 2008-08-30 06:43 am (UTC)Unable to find anyone else he recognized, the ninja found himself wandering over to Mello. No M&Ms this time, it seemed. And he wasn't even going to mess with the choice of drink.
"Mello!" he greeted with a smile, remembering to leave off the -san now. They were friends, weren't they? "Hi there."
Sadly, he wasn't all that great at starting up conversation.

Date: 2008-08-30 07:45 am (UTC)"Certainly. You are a valuable person, after all." Which Mello would no doubt reject as patronization from his younger rival. To Near, it made no difference, and he continued to color as if Mello had made no marks at all.
Then someone else came over who Near was not familiar with. Hardly an uncommon circumstance. But this stranger addressed Mello by name, and cheerfully at that. Usually those who interacted with Near or Mello weren't so optimistic. Moreover, there were several party goers, yet Mello was the one this person had approached. Conclusions could easily be reached from this, and without turning to the newcomer or even looking up, Near tested his deduction.
"A friend of yours?"

Date: 2008-08-30 08:13 am (UTC)"I thought your normal clothes were that ninja stuff?" From their earlier conversation Mello knew that Sai's universe was different from his own, but he had trouble believing that a world made of magical ninjas contained such ordinary clothing. He took a step back to better view the assortment of scribbles and colored patches, but still, no pattern was evident.
"What do you think, Sai?" he asked, pursing his lips as if considering the wall's artistic merit. Before his new companion had a chance to answer, he returned to the wall and drew another series of dashes just beyond Near's reach. "Needs more red."
Mello chose to disregard Near's question. He couldn't tell whether it was a legitimate inquiry or a poor attempt at an insult, and either way, he didn't owe his rival an answer.

Date: 2008-08-30 08:24 am (UTC)The artwork Near was working on was interesting. No one appeared to be saying anything about it being completed on the wall, so Sai assumed he had permission. "Oh, is this abstract?" he asked, leaning in for a better look. "Whenever I create an abstract piece of art, viewers seem to think it's inspired by some emotional incident, but I find abstract drawing simply a relaxing way to free one's current thoughts." In whatever form that might take. How was one supposed to give a name to random thoughts anyway? He always had an easier time with the landscapes. No one asks questions about an image of a mountain. "Are you an artist?"

Date: 2008-08-30 11:24 pm (UTC)Interesting.
"No." Mello was adding slashes to the work, and Near studied them in the edges of his vision: judging angles and lengths, then discerning the pattern of those numbers. Such a process was simple enough, and certainly not the inconvenience Mello was trying to make of it. Near switched colors, his expression neutral as he continued to fill in the blank spaces. No pattern was evident, but Near's movements were done quickly, something Mello would likely perceive as trying to finish before he could change any more. "It's just a way of organizing my thoughts."

Date: 2008-09-01 02:44 am (UTC)Art was one of the few blank spaces in Mello's education. He'd never had a need to learn about the history of painting or color theory, and the things he did need to learn had occupied every spare minute. Art was a waste of time and creativity, but he wouldn't tell that to the ninja.
Mello raised the bottle of chocolate liquour to his mouth and tapped the marker against the wall thoughtfully, leaving a series of spots. He took Near's increased speed as a sign that the attempts to frustrate his efforts were paying off, and Mello stepped back and around the crouching figure before starting on the other side with some seemingly aimless spirals.
He looked back to Sai as his marker continued to move. Mello knew that whatever he said would be analyzed by Near, but luckily, there was nothing to disguise about his relationship to their new companion. In fact, it was best for Near to think of them as friends--Mello wouldn't turn down any opportunity to prove the social advantage he held over his rival.
"You know a lot about this kind of stuff?" he asked Sai, his casual tone seemingly disconnected from the heavy pressure behind his lines.

Date: 2008-09-01 03:44 am (UTC)"My specialization is an ink-based ninjutsu," he explained. "I can turn a drawing into a usable form that imitates life for a brief time. I also create artwork as a hobby." He called himself an artist, but someone could argue that he lacked the emotional backing involved in proper artwork.
He looked around. There didn't seem to be anything to drink that wasn't alcoholic, and this caused him to sigh. He supposed he'd just go thirsty for now.

Date: 2008-09-01 06:17 am (UTC)And by the time Mello did see it, Near would have pieced the whole together, thanks in large part to the contribution Mello was making now.
"Mello is correct to say that." Another prod, words that would spark Mello to study what Near's basis was. Yet he wouldn't consider the numbers yet, and that suited Near's purposes. He was also interested in the fact that Mello was only just now learning about Sai's artistic abilities, and his hobbies. If they had been friends, he would have clearly made such an observation earlier on, and therefore would lack the need to ask then. Based on this, Near concluded that, unsurprisingly, Mello's interest in Sai was the other's usefulness, and little more. Of course Near would agree with such tactics, seeing people in the same light.
The details of Sai's specialization were of course not missed. "How does that work, exactly?" The question would anger Mello, and at the same time test the elder's knowledge on the complexities of Sai's power. If he knew, Mello would be very likely to spout off the answer in an effort to prove his superior knowledge to Near. And if not, it would most likely signify that Mello though such a power insignificant, whether by the nature of the power itself, or because of the limitation placed on them by the Institute.

Date: 2008-09-01 07:13 am (UTC)Another few slashes with the marker. As always, Near's apparent indifference annoyed him. Mello could have scribbled over his rival's work, but that would have been childishly destructive and both of them knew it. Instead, he capped the marker and bent down to snatch a yellow one, then continued his additions a foot higher. Even if the younger one did decide to stand up to correct the aberrations, the new ones would be a few inches beyond his reach.
Asking about the mechanism behind Sai's power seemed like pointless small talk to Mello. What response could be given, beyond 'magic'? He ignored Near's question, though he expected Sai would answer it.
"I guess you're not drinking this time around," he said with a smile as he noticed Sai glance towards the drink table. His experience at the last party hadn't looked pleasant, and he doubted the ninja would want to repeat it. "Is the punch already spiked?"
The bottle in his own hand was missing about a third of its contents, and he was beginning to feel the mildest effects of the alcohol. Luckily, Mello had no concerns about his ability to hold his liquor.

Date: 2008-09-01 08:21 am (UTC)The ninja might have gone slightly red in the face - might have - at Mello's mentioning of the last event like this they'd attended. "I haven't bothered with the punch yet, so I wouldn't know. There doesn't seem to be anything here that isn't alcoholic." Which was a shame, but Sai would be fine.
